How to Assemble and Operate a Gas Fireplace

Your complete guide to gas burner assembly, connection, and operation - designed for a flawless first light.

This guide walks you through the complete assembly and operation of your EcoSmart Fire gas burner fireplace. Follow each step carefully to ensure safe and correct setup.

Burner Assembly

Step 1: Install the Metal Tray

Install the metal tray (if applicable) into the surround unit. This tray sits inside the unit and provides the base for the burner assembly.

Step 2: Position the Burner Assembly

Position the burner assembly so that the gas input flexible line (where the orifice is located) is pointing towards the control plate cutout location of the surround.

Step 3: Uncoil the Thermocouple Tube

Carefully uncoil the thermocouple tube. Take care not to kink or damage it during this process.

Step 4: Feed Lines Through the Opening

Feed the flexible gas line, thermocouple tube, grounding wire, and the ignitor wire through the burner location opening first, then lower the burner into its final location.

Step 5: Install the Grommet & Set Burner Position

Install the grommet by sliding it into the slot. Place the burner into its final position.

Gas Connection

Step 1: Route the Propane Hose

Slide the black propane tank hose under the surround unit and out through the control panel opening.

Step 2: Regulator End Connects to Propane Tank

The other end of the black propane hose with the regulator will attach to the propane tank.

Step 3: Pull Hoses Through the Control Plate Cutout

Pull all hoses and wires from inside the unit out through the control plate cutout.

Step 4: Attach the Flexible Gas Line

Attach the flexible propane gas line to the inlet valve fitting (arrow pointing in).

Step 5: Connect the Thermocouple

Connect the thermocouple to the control valve.

Step 6: Plug in the Ignitor & Grounding Wires

Plug the ignitor wire and grounding wire into the back side of the sparker.

Control Panel Installation

Step 1: Insert the Control Panel

Insert the assembled control panel into the side of the surround unit.

Step 2: Secure with Screws

Secure the control panel assembly with the 4 screws provided.

Media Installation

Step 1: Install the Glass Screens

Install the glass screens on either side of the burner. Handle with care.

Step 2: Spread the Glass Media

Spread the glass media evenly over the burner surface. Ensure complete coverage for the best visual effect.

Lighting & Operation

Step 1: Connect the Propane Tank

Ensure the propane tank valve is in the OFF position. Attach the propane hose and included regulator to the propane tank.

Step 2: Lighting Sequence

Follow this sequence to light your fireplace:

  1. Press and turn the control knob to the LOW/IGNITION position.

  2. Fully depress the control knob and hold for 3--5 seconds.

  3. Press and hold the sparker button.

Step 3: Confirm Ignition

The burner should ignite and continue to operate when the control knob is released. If the flame does not stay lit, wait 5 minutes and repeat the lighting sequence.

Step 4: Adjust the Flame

Turn the control knob to adjust the flame height to your desired level. The flame can be set from low to high.

Safe Shutdown

Step 1: Turn Off the Fireplace

To extinguish, gently turn the control knob to the OFF position. Always ensure the propane tank valve is also turned off when not in use.

  • Only a licensed plumber may perform a gas installation.
